Hot Spot

FreeBies

When producing my newspaper I have included a hot spot. This allows me to not only attract my target audience but to also introduce a new audience. For example if someone couldn't choose between my paper and another local newspaper, they may look at my newspaper and see that it comes with a free product and choose mine because it has more to offer. This not only gets the newspaper more recognised it also will make the newspaper more popular and sell ore copies. Although the freebee does cost a bit, it is 100% worth it as the amount of copies that are sold turn into a increase in profit forgetting about the small cut into purchasing the freebies.

Bar Codes

From looking into bar codes I have actually gained knowledge that from my research bar codes are not usually put on the front cover of a newspaper, they are usually on the back. I did not know this before I researched this, this shows how important research actually is otherwise I would have created a bar code to go on the front cover of my newspaper when actually newspapers don't usually have this. I want to make my newspaper as realistic as possible which is why I have left the bar code out of the front cover due to my strong research.

As you can see in the image above, Whitstable Time do not have a bar code on the front cover of their newspaper. The publisher put the bar code on the back page. Although it does not have a bar code it does however include the price at the top of the page so the reader knows how much they are buying it for.

Article Writing

Letter Alignment

From my research I have noticed that typically at the beginning of every article the letter is bigger and bolder than the other letters. This stands out a lot and influences the reader to read on after being drawn to the big letter to continue reading the article. I done this by right clicking on the letter, change text, drop cap, then chose what style I wanted to have my article main letter look like.

Structure

I want to try out a variety of ways as to how the headline should be on the page. I have put a basic article there just for now just show how I want my layout to be. I have put the price in the right hand corner so it is separate from everything else. I feel that the FREEBIE does not stand out as much at the bottom so I will adjust thins and move all my content around in order to change this.

Newspaper Name

I have decided to name my local newspaper 'Whitstable Periodical'. Periodical stands for regular publications which is perfect for what I want my newspaper name to represent. As overall it means Whitstable regular publications; implying that it is not only a local newspaper, it also is regularly published to update and inform their target audience.

Original logo I designed:

Improved logo design:

Representation

What does the bird represent?

The bird represent the theme of Whitstable because it is very known for their seagulls in this specific location. I wanted my logo to be recognizable so my target audience will instantly look at the image and think Whitstable.

Second Page

Designing my second page of my newspaper 'Whitstable Periodical'

By going through my research, I have planned together a layout  so I can overlook how I want my second page to look like. I have used the rule of third in order for the page to have a format to present neatly to my audience. If I was to avoid using the rule of third then this can put my piece in danger as all sections could be all over the place.
