Welcome to my blog,
I have created this blog for my A2 Media Studies coursework. I was given a selection of questions to choose from, I eliminated the questions as to asking myself: does my school have the appropriate technology for the task? Am I able to present my skills to their best abilities whilst also learning new techniques along the way?
I chose not to do film making due to my school not having many cameras and enough computers with the appropriate software on in which I would need to use on a regular basis for filming the product therefore I would not be able to perform to my best abilities and may corrupt my time consumption as it is important I hit them deadlines.
After looking over the questions I have decided I want to focus on newspapers for my final piece. This allows me to expand my knowledge from last year when studying magazine; it will be interesting discovering the similarities and differences of the variety of elements within both products. This will help with my evaluation due to learning a lot about the media and how it is publitised to their target audience. I chose not to produce a magazine again this year as I personally feel that a newspaper will be more challenging for me as I have already produced a magazine last year. I will be able to discover a deeper understanding about cultural differences and what genres are usually suited to local newspapers.
This was the question that I followed to produced my work:
The first two pages of an original local newspaper (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the newspaper, following the same house style), together with two of the following three options:
• a billboard poster for the newspaper;
•
a radio advertisement for the newspaper;
•
two hyperlinked pages from the paper’s website.
For my A2 coursework I am going to design two pages for a local newspaper, alongside that two hyper-linked pages from the papers' website and a billboard to advertise my newspaper to the public. I will encourage the ancillary tasks to be seen as advertisements. I am then able to reach a wider audience by attracting customers to purchase my local newspaper that I will be producing. By creating my own newspaper this will then challenge my magazine skills and see if I can apply any techniques to the newspaper; this will give me the opportunity/experience in becoming a journalist in the future by learning a deeper understanding about the media.
